CVE-2026-80529

Service interruption via discarded quota verification error

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

XFS quota recovery flaw in Linux allows local users to interrupt service when a corrupt quota record is replayed during filesystem recovery. In fs/xfs/xfs_dquot_item_recover.c, xlog_recover_dquot_commit_pass2() sets -EFSCORRUPTED after xfs_dqblk_verify() rejects a recovered dquot, but its release path returns zero and permits the corrupt quota buffer to reach disk. Reachability requires XFS log recovery of an invalid quota record; the published record does not identify how a local user creates that state.
