CVE-2026-80528Network attack vector

Kernel crash via CephFS reclaim type confusion

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Type confusion in the Linux CephFS client allows remote attackers controlling an MDS peer to crash a connected client kernel. During handle_reply(), direct reclaim can reach ext4 while current->journal_info contains a ceph_mds_request, causing JBD2 to treat r_tid as a journal transaction pointer. The path requires a mounted CephFS client connected to an attacker-controlled or compromised MDS; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel oops or panic.
