Process crash via premature haystack length read
Published Sep 30, 2026 · Updated Sep 30, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Richard Harris Algorithm::AhoCorasick::XS 0.04 and earlier allows attackers to crash a Perl process via a numeric haystack. The matches, first_match, and match_details methods pass Perl scalars through a typemap that reads SvCUR before SvPV stringifies the input, allowing an invalid length to reach the string constructor. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass a non-string scalar, such as a decoded JSON number or blessed object, as the haystack; the resulting abort cannot be caught within Perl.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
