Author-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked membership role
Published Sep 13, 2026 · Updated Sep 13, 2026
Privilege escalation in WPEverest User Registration & Membership before 5.2.8 allows remote authenticated users to become Administrators. The membership registration path accepts a user-selected plan without confirming that the plan is published or that its assigned WordPress role is permitted. Author-level access permits creation of the malicious plan, which can then be attached to the same account to gain full site administration.
