Service-account password recovery via timestamp-seeded generation
Published Oct 1, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026
Predictable passwords in Fortra Core Privileged Access Manager (BoKS) before 9.0.0.6 allow attackers to recover AD service credentials. The boks_keytabmd keytab-management process seeds its pseudo-random password sequence with the current Unix timestamp rather than unpredictable entropy. Exploitation requires knowledge of the service principal and an estimate of the password-change time so that a limited candidate set can be tested offline.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
