CVE-2026-79775Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service crash or CPU exhaustion via malformed SquashFS

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Denial of service in rclone 1.72.0 through 1.74.4 allows remote authenticated users to crash or stall services via crafted SquashFS images. The archive backend passes image bytes to go-diskfs, which accepts a zero block size, an unchecked inode offset, or a truncated metadata stream without validating bounds or progress. Triggering requires control of an archive image and access that descends into it; panic variants terminate rclone or an SFTP daemon, while the loop consumes CPU after disconnect.
