Privilege escalation via unchecked non-user project subjects
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Gardener allows remote authenticated users with project-admin rights to grant broad project access. The customverbauthorizer mustCheckProjectMembers manage-members check compares User subjects but omits Group and ServiceAccount subjects in Project.spec.members. A project administrator without manage-members permission can add system:authenticated or another subject and expose Shoots, Secrets, and cloud credentials.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
