Administrator takeover via read-scope password change
Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Ech0 before 4.4.3 allows remote authenticated users to take over an administrator account via a read-only token. The PUT /api/user route in internal/router/user.go requires only profile:read, while UpdateUser accepts a new password without a write-scope check. Possession of an administrator's profile:read access token is required; changing the password and logging in yields an unrestricted session token with full administrator access.
