Out-of-bounds read via unchecked summary offsets
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in libxls 1.6.3 allows attackers to access memory outside an OLE summary buffer via a crafted XLS file. The xls_dumpSummary() function uses file-controlled OLE summary offsets without sufficient bounds validation before reading from the associated buffer. Exploitation requires an application to process attacker-controlled XLS content; the public record does not establish whether the read exposes data, crashes the process, or produces another observable effect.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
