Command execution via sourced unescaped configuration values
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
OS command injection in Mike Bailey VoiceMode 8.10.1 and earlier allows attackers to run shell commands through a crafted configuration value. The update_config MCP tool and voicemode config set CLI write the value to ~/.voicemode/voicemode.env without shell-safe escaping; Whisper and serve startup scripts source that file. The config tools are not enabled in the default MCP tool set, and execution occurs when an affected service starts or restarts under its service account.
