System crash via raced driver handle and WRMSR
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
Denial of service in Argotronic eGbR Argus Monitor 7.4.02 and earlier allows local users to crash AMD Windows systems via a driver IOCTL. The IRP_MJ_CREATE check validates a stale process-image path after the executable is replaced, granting a driver handle; IOCTL 0x9C4024A8 then writes the AMD hardware configuration register to disable MONITOR and MWAIT instructions. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local account, an AMD CPU, and the affected driver; the documented Hyper-V path ends in a system bugcheck.
