Authenticated file disclosure and code execution via traversal
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Path traversal in web2py 3.2.2-stable allows remote authenticated users to read or overwrite files through administrative JSON-RPC. The read_file() and write_file() methods pass caller-controlled paths to apath() without normalization or a containment check, so parent-directory segments escape the application tree. A valid management credential and reachable loopback or HTTPS administrative interface are required; writes to a controller directory execute code as the web2py service account.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
