System restriction bypass via mismanaged extension privileges
Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Improper privilege management in Google Chrome before 152.0.7977.65 allows remote attackers to bypass system restrictions via a crafted extension. The Regional Capabilities component incorrectly assigns extension privileges, but Google has not disclosed the faulty function or missing authorization check. Exploitation requires social engineering a user into installing or running the crafted extension; the bounded result is bypass of system access restrictions.
