Local code execution via unsafe shell invocation
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Command injection in CrossWire Xiphos 4.3.2 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code through crafted link or menu input. The URL and popup-menu paths pass attacker-controlled command text from src/main/url.cc and src/gtk/menu_popup.c to popen(), invoking a shell without separating arguments. Exploitation requires local interaction with the desktop application and runs commands with the privileges of the Xiphos process.
