Sandboxed memory disclosure via stale VP8 worker state

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026

Uninitialized resource use in Google Chrome before 152.0.7977.65 allows remote attackers to read sandboxed memory via crafted HTML. The libvpx VP8 multithreaded decoder preserves each worker MACROBLOCKD for the decoder lifetime but fails to reset its mbd->corrupted flag when later eligible frames begin, allowing crafted video state to affect memory reads. A victim must load attacker-controlled HTML that reaches video decoding; disclosure remains confined to memory accessible within Chrome's sandbox.
