CVE-2026-78676Public exploitNetwork attack vectorHinoki check available

Remote code execution via config re-serialization

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

Config injection in GitPython before 3.1.59 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through an attacker-crafted git-config file. GitConfigParser._read() decodes escaped newlines into in-memory values, while write_section() emits those values as bare indented lines that Git reparses as directives. Exploitation requires a read-write parser to load the crafted value, perform an unrelated config write, and later run a hook-triggering Git operation.
