CVE-2026-78475

Crash and stack disclosure via unbounded PIX allocation

Published Aug 24, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in GIMP 3.0.0 and newer allows context-dependent attackers to crash GIMP or expose stack bytes via a crafted PIX file. The file-pix ESM loader uses image-controlled dimensions for an unchecked variable-length stack allocation, then reads 21 bytes beyond that allocation into an intermediate file. Exploitation requires a user to process the crafted image; stack exhaustion can terminate GIMP, while the over-read discloses only a limited slice of stack memory.
