Endpoint code execution via unchecked Sysmon artifact permission
Published Oct 5, 2026 · Updated Oct 5, 2026
Privilege escalation in Rapid7 Velociraptor before 0.77.3 allows remote authenticated users to run arbitrary binaries on Windows endpoints. The Windows.Sysinternals.SysmonLogForward monitoring artifact accepts a caller-specified binary path through SysmonFileLocation but does not require the EXECVE permission before collection. Exploitation requires COLLECT_CLIENT access, typically held by an Investigator, and reaches Windows clients assigned the artifact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
