Local privilege escalation via unpinned bind source

Time-of-check time-of-use race in util-linux mount(8) 2.39 through 2.42.2 allows local users to alter root-owned path metadata. Restricted bind handling authorizes an fstab source as a pathname, then open_tree re-resolves it without a pinned descriptor before the privileged mount. Exploitation requires a SUID mount(8), a user-enabled bind or rbind entry with X-mount.owner, X-mount.group, or X-mount.mode, and a replaceable source or writable ancestor; root then applies ownership or mode changes to an attacker-selected directory.
