Data disclosure via cross-backend duplicate email identities

Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026

Identity shadowing in OTRS CustomerUser allows remote authenticated users to expose customer data through duplicate email identities. Email uniqueness checks cover only the selected backend, allowing an address already present in another backend to be reused; OTRS 7.0.x, 8.0.x, 2023.x, 2024.x, 2025.x, 2026.x before 2026.7.1, and Community Edition 6.x and earlier are affected. Exploitation requires multiple configured backends and permission to create or modify customer users; information or email association with the wrong customer depends on workflow and backend resolution.
