File read and write via unchecked workspace paths
Published May 5, 2026 · Updated May 5, 2026
Path traversal in Python Notebook MCP allows remote attackers to read or write notebook files outside the initialized workspace. The duplicated server.py resolve_path logic accepts absolute paths and joins relative paths to WORKSPACE_DIR without canonicalization or a containment check. Exploitation requires MCP tool access, workspace initialization, and service-account access to the target; commit a05a232815809a7e425b5fa7be26e0d4369894c2 is affected.
