Unauthenticated account impersonation via default JWT secret
Published Aug 23, 2026 · Updated Aug 23, 2026
Authentication bypass in vas3k TaxHacker 0.8.0 through 0.8.2 allows remote attackers to forge JWT session tokens. The BETTER_AUTH_SECRET schema in lib/config.ts assigns a public default when the variable is unset, and config.auth.secret passes it to better-auth for JWT signing. Exploitation requires a deployment without an explicit secret and knowledge of a user ID; forged tokens grant access as that user to protected financial data and actions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
