SYSTEM escalation via log archival race
Published May 4, 2026 · Updated May 4, 2026
Local privilege escalation in Amazon WorkSpaces for Windows before 2.6.2034.0 allows local users to gain SYSTEM access via log archival. The Skylight Workspace Config Service log archival workflow has a time-of-check/time-of-use race that lets attackers redirect file placement after validation and bypass file-system permissions. Exploitation requires a non-administrator account on a Windows WorkSpace whose directory has not enabled the Local Administrator Setting; successful abuse grants full local SYSTEM privileges.
