Unauthenticated command execution via shell-evaluated interface
Published May 4, 2026 · Updated May 5, 2026
OS command injection in Arnab Gupta Wireshark MCP allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through quick_capture. The tool interpolates its caller-controlled interface value into a command string and passes it to subprocess.Popen with shell=True without neutralizing shell metacharacters. The attacker must be able to invoke the MCP tool directly or through an exposed agent integration; commands run with the server process's permissions.
