Host memory corruption via PCNet receive write
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
An out-of-bounds write in Oracle VM VirtualBox before 7.2.8 allows guest OS users to corrupt host memory through an emulated PCNet adapter. The pcnetReceiveNoSync routine in DevPCNet.cpp writes beyond bounds while processing receive data for the AMD PCNet PCI II (Am79C970A) device. Exposure requires an x86 guest configured with that adapter; the supplied source record does not establish code execution, data disclosure, or a specific host failure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
