Service interruption via aborted-upload descriptor leak

Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026

Incomplete cleanup in Express.js Multer 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt service via aborted disk-backed uploads. The disk storage engine unlinks the partial file without closing its destination write stream, leaving a deleted descriptor and retained blocks. An exposed multipart upload route using diskStorage is required; repeated failed uploads can exhaust file descriptors and halt request processing.
