Crash via AVRCP reassembly length overflow
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026
Heap overflow in the Bluetooth AVRCP dissector in Wireshark before 4.4.18 and 4.6.8 allows attackers to crash the process via crafted input. In btavrcp fragment reassembly, a 32-bit length accumulator wraps before allocation, and the subsequent memcpy loop copies fragment data past the undersized heap buffer. Reachability is limited to data parsed locally: a malformed Bluetooth packet on the wire or a crafted packet capture file can terminate Wireshark or TShark, with no published evidence of code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.4.0 <4.4.18
