Account takeover via user-controlled editOwn ID

Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Missing authorization in Leantime through 3.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to take over other accounts via JSON-RPC. In app/Domain/Api/Controllers/Jsonrpc.php, the dispatcher invokes exposed service methods without centralized authorization, and the editOwn path accepts a caller-supplied user ID instead of binding the write to the session account. Any logged-in account can reset another user's password and profile data; compromise of an administrator or owner account yields full application takeover.
