Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via multisite capability meta write
Published May 2, 2026 · Updated May 2, 2026
Privilege escalation in Import and export users and customers 2.0.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to become subsite administrators. save_extra_user_profile_fields() blocklists primary-site capability keys but passes prefixed subsite keys to update_user_meta(). Subscriber access is sufficient only after an administrator imports those keys as CSV columns and exposes them as profile fields on a Multisite network.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
