CVE-2026-76400Network attack vector

Event delivery halt via unbounded retries

Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026

Denial of service in Splunk Connect for Kafka before 2.2.7 allows remote attackers to stop event delivery via the REST API. HEC delivery retry handling uses the splunk.hec.max.retries default of -1, so failed batches are resent indefinitely instead of being dropped after a finite limit. Exploitation requires network reachability to the Kafka Connect REST API and the ability to influence responses from a Splunk Enterprise HTTP Event Collector endpoint; the consequence is bounded to availability because the connector stalls on repeated batch failures.
