Analyst-to-administrator escalation via writable UEBA search macros
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 21, 2026
Privilege escalation in Splunk Enterprise Security before 8.6.1 allows remote authenticated users to read data and alter privileged search results. UEBA app metadata grants the ess_analyst role write access to search macros that scheduled searches execute with administrator permissions. An account assigned that role can alter the macros, exposing data and affecting system integrity through the privileged searches.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
