Admin-context SPL execution via shared dataset
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Privilege escalation in Splunk Enterprise before 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14 allows remote authenticated users to run shared SPL as an admin. Table Editor stores attacker-controlled SPL in a dataset's Initial Data definition and does not apply risky-command safeguards when it prepares that data, so opening the shared dataset runs the stored search with the viewer's permissions. Exploitation requires a user with the power role to induce an admin to open the shared dataset in Splunk Web; reported impact is exposure of accessible data and limited modification on the search head.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=10.0 <10.0.9

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
