Unauthorized internal-index writes via unnormalized whitespace
Published Oct 7, 2026 · Updated Oct 7, 2026
In Splunk Enterprise 9.4, 10.0, 10.2, and 10.4, improper index-name validation lets remote authenticated users write restricted internal-index events. The collect SPL command applies a role's index-access restrictions before normalizing whitespace in the supplied index name, allowing a name that passes the check to resolve to an internal index. Exploitation requires a role with the run_collect capability; the documented consequence is unauthorized event insertion, not access to read indexed data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
