Arbitrary file overwrite via unrestricted output path
Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026
Path traversal in Dayoooun hwpx-mcp 0.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to create or overwrite files through its MCP interface. The save_document, export_to_text, and export_to_html handlers pass caller-controlled output_path values to writeFileSync or renameSync without restricting them to a workspace. Access to invoke MCP tools and write permission at the selected path are required; successful exploitation can corrupt configuration or interrupt the service.
