Authenticated code execution via unchecked WAN password copy
Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in TRENDnet TEW-823DRU 1.1.02b01 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via WAN settings. The /cgi-bin/wan.cgi handler copies the attacker-controlled wan_l2tp_password NVRAM value with strcpy into a fixed-size stack buffer without validating its length. Access to the router management interface is required; exploitation can corrupt control flow, execute code on the appliance, or crash it.
