Code execution via unescaped hint metadata
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Cross-site scripting in SiYuan through 3.7.3 allows attackers to execute OS commands via crafted block metadata in (( hints. In app/src/protyle/hint/extend.ts, genHintItemHTML() concatenates a block's name, alias, and memo into popup HTML without escaping, so a self-firing tag executes as soon as the autocomplete list renders. Reachability requires attacker-controlled content to land in a workspace the victim opens and be surfaced by normal '((' reference typing; Electron's nodeIntegration and disabled contextIsolation then expose child_process at the victim's privilege level.
