CVE-2026-75838Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-site scripting via skipped subtree neutralization

Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 18, 2026

Cross-site scripting in DOMPurify before 3.4.13 allows attackers to execute JavaScript via crafted HTML processed with IN_PLACE. In _sanitizeElements(), the beforeSanitizeElements and uponSanitizeElement hook paths return after detaching the current node without calling _neutralizeSubtree(currentNode), so descendant event handlers in the detached subtree remain executable. Reachability requires the non-default IN_PLACE option plus a hook that removes a containing element; when an application later renders the sanitized content, retained descendant handlers can run in the application's origin.
