Super-admin escalation via unguarded group access

Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026

Privilege escalation in Grav before 2.0.14 allows remote authenticated users to gain super-admin rights via crafted group access data. The core Flex group blueprint in system/blueprints/user/group.yaml omits the security@: admin.super guard on its access field, so non-super operators can submit access[admin][super]=true and have the save path persist it to groups.yaml. Exploitation requires delegated admin.users.update capability and reachability to the admin group-edit flow; successful abuse grants scheduler and Twig-evaluation access, enabling full administrative control.
