Heap disclosure or crash via unchecked dictionary offsets
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in GNU Aspell before 0.60.8.3 allows attackers to expose heap memory or crash the process through a crafted .rws dictionary. ReadOnlyDict::load() uses offsets from the binary dictionary header to index a heap buffer without checking that they remain within the loaded block. Exploitation requires a user or consuming application to load the attacker-supplied dictionary; the resulting impact is limited to that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
