CVE-2026-7580

Local code injection via unescaped Marlin units

Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026

Code injection in ExifTool 13.0 through 13.53 allows local users to execute Perl code via crafted Marlin metadata processed with -ee. Process_mrld in lib/Image/ExifTool/GM.pm incorporates an attacker-controlled Marlin units string into a PrintConv Perl expression after stripping only quotes, backslashes and slashes. The path requires embedded extraction of GM Marlin data from JPEG, QuickTime, MOV or MP4 input, and injected code runs in the ExifTool process context.
