Viewer-level monitoring disruption via unchecked WebSocket topics
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Missing authorization in Frigate before 0.17.2 allows remote authenticated users to alter monitoring settings through WebSocket messages. The handler in frigate/comms/ws.py forwards attacker-selected topics to the dispatcher without receiving or checking the authenticated user's role. Authentication must be enabled and valid viewer credentials are required; successful requests can restart the service or disable recording, detection, motion processing, snapshots, audio, cameras, and notifications.
