Server crash via underestimated attribute response size
Published Oct 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 9, 2026
Buffer overflow in EIPStackGroup OpENer 2.3 allows remote attackers to crash the server via EtherNet/IP Get_Attribute_List requests. GetAttributeList() budgets attribute values but omits the four-byte attribute ID, status, and reserved metadata written for each successful response entry. Exploitation requires access to the TCP explicit-message service and session registration, not credentials; response assembly corrupts memory and crashes the server.
