CVE-2026-75166

Root command execution via tcpdump postrotate option

Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026

Privilege escalation in MBS-Solutions X-Serie Gateway firmware 6_00_05 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root. A passwordless sudo rule lets the low-privileged service account invoke /usr/bin/tcpdump as root, while tcpdump's -z option launches an attacker-chosen postrotate command. Access to the authenticated service account is required; successful exploitation grants root command execution on the gateway.
