Command execution via notebook MCP configuration
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Code injection in the notebook configuration handler in Marimo before 0.23.15 allows attackers to execute commands via a crafted notebook. PEP 723 notebook metadata is merged with highest precedence into operator configuration, and the prior ScriptConfigManager sanitizer stripped only tool.marimo.runtime.auto_instantiate, leaving attacker-supplied tool.marimo.mcp entries and related sections to pass through unchecked. Opening the notebook in edit mode is enough to launch the configured subprocess before any cell runs, so notebook authors can trigger local code execution on hosts that review untrusted notebooks.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
