Code execution via mismatched plugin blocklists
Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 17, 2026
Sandbox bypass in the plugin system in jahlives OpenSSL Encrypt before 1.4.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted plugin imports. The PluginImportGuard in plugin_sandbox.py enforces a shorter denylist than the DANGEROUS_MODULES set in plugin_ast_analyzer.py, so obfuscated, encoded, or indirect imports can evade AST checks and still load dangerous modules such as sys, shutil, multiprocessing, importlib, and pickle. Reachability depends on whether attackers can supply plugin code to the application, but successful exploitation yields code execution inside the product's plugin sandbox rather than a read-only policy failure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
