Malicious metadata acceptance via fail-open schema validation
Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 17, 2026
Schema validation bypass in jahlives openssl_encrypt before 1.4.0 allows attackers to submit malformed metadata via crafted format versions. In openssl_encrypt/modules/json_validator.py, validate_against_schema returns without validating when the optional jsonschema dependency is missing and also skips checks for unknown metadata format versions. Exposure requires a code path that accepts attacker-controlled metadata or an attacker who can alter the Python environment, and the documented result is acceptance of malicious data rather than a standalone execution primitive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
