Host-process crash via resource-exhausting templates

Published Aug 16, 2026 · Updated Aug 16, 2026

Denial of service in Scriban before 7.0.0 allows attackers to crash the host process via crafted templates that exhaust memory or CPU. Expression evaluation mishandles untrusted operands in ScriptBinaryExpression by building repeated strings with no bound, shifting BigIntegers left with no cap, and yielding ranges that builtin functions fully enumerate outside LoopLimit and LimitToString. Reachability depends on an application accepting attacker-supplied templates; a single expression can trigger OutOfMemoryException or prolonged CPU exhaustion, and the issue does not imply data access or code execution.
