CVE-2026-74753Hinoki check available

Local privilege escalation via perf group use-after-free

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Use-after-free in affected Linux kernel branches allows local users to gain kernel privileges through crafted perf event groups. perf_event_open() accepts an EXIT-state remove-on-exec event as a group leader, letting a sibling retain group_leader after the leader is freed. Low-privileged local syscall access is sufficient; dereferencing the stale pointer can disclose or corrupt kernel memory and crash the host.
