Local privilege escalation via mutable IP header
Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the Linux IPVS subsystem allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through ICMP NAT packet handling. Within ip_vs_nat_icmp(), skb_ensure_writable() validates one embedded IPv4 header length, but ip_send_check() rereads a locally mutable IHL and accesses beyond that bound. Exploitation requires a local low-privileged process and an IPVS NAT configuration; consequences include kernel-memory disclosure, a kernel panic, or privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
