Remote memory exhaustion via listener-close race
Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Race condition in the SMC networking subsystem in affected Linux kernel releases allows remote attackers to exhaust kernel memory. smc_listen_out() checks listener state before taking the listener lock, so concurrent close processing can drain the queue before a child is enqueued on the closed listener. Any unauthenticated network peer that reaches an AF_SMC listener can drive handshakes during routine listener shutdown; each successful race leaks a socket and references until kernel memory is exhausted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
